Isaiah 46:4
Isaiah 46:4. El Versículo del Día, Jueves, 1 de octubre de 2026, con una breve reflexión.
Y hasta la vejez yo mismo, y hasta las canas os soportaré yo: yo hice, yo llevaré, yo soportaré y guardaré.
Isaiah 46:4
Qué significa este versículo
God tells his people that he made them and will keep carrying them all the way into old age, which sets him apart from idols that have to be carried by the people who worship them.
This part of Isaiah speaks to Israelites living as exiles in Babylon. Jerusalem had been destroyed, the temple was gone, and the people were surrounded by the grand religion of the empire that had conquered them, so it would have been easy to wonder whether Babylon's gods were simply stronger.
The chapter opens with a scene that answers that worry. Bel and Nebo were two of Babylon's chief gods, and their statues were carried through the streets in big festival processions. Isaiah pictures those same statues loaded onto tired animals and hauled away as the city falls, bowing and stooping under their own weight, a heavy load the gods can do nothing to save.
Then God turns to his own people and points out the difference. He reminds them that he has carried them since before they were born, from the womb, and in this verse he promises to keep doing it. Even when they are old and gray, he says, he is still the same God, and he will still be the one carrying them.
The words are chosen with care. The verbs for "carry" and "bear" here are the same kind of words used a few lines earlier for the idols being loaded up as burdens. Babylon's gods have to be lifted and hauled around by the people who worship them, while Israel's God is the one who lifts and carries his people.
In the original Hebrew the word "I" also comes again and again, five times in this one short verse, which gives it the feel of God pressing the point that he himself is doing all of it: he made them, he will bear them, he will carry them, and he will rescue them.
So the verse is a promise of faithfulness that lasts a whole lifetime. The God who formed this people has no plans to set them down, from their first day to their last.
