Proverbs 25:2. El Versículo del Día, Jueves, 8 de octubre de 2026, con una breve reflexión.

Gloria de Dios es encubrir la palabra; mas honra del rey es escudriñar la palabra.

Proverbs 25:2

Qué significa este versículo

Proverbs 25:2 says that God's greatness shows in how much of his work stays beyond our reach, while a king's greatness shows in how hard he works to dig out the truth of a matter.

This verse opens a new section of Proverbs. The line just before it explains that these are more sayings of Solomon, copied out by the scribes of King Hezekiah, who ruled Judah a couple of centuries later. So the collection was put together by men who worked at a royal court, and fittingly, the first few sayings are about kings.

The verse sets God and the king side by side. God's glory is that he conceals things: the world he made, the way he runs history and the reasons behind it all go deeper than any person can fully see, and that depth is part of what makes him God. A king's glory runs the other way, because his job is to search things out. When a dispute came before him, or a rumor, or a plot, he was expected to dig until he found what was really going on, so he could judge fairly.

In the original Hebrew the same word, kavod, sits in both halves of the line. The translation says "glory" for God and "honour" for kings, but the saying really uses one word twice, which makes the comparison sharper: each one is honored for doing what fits who he is. The word for "thing" and "matter" is also the same, davar, which can mean a word, a thing or an affair.

The next verse keeps the thought going. It says the heavens are high and the earth is deep, and the heart of kings can't be searched out either. So the king searches, yet even he has depths others can't see, and above him God has depths the king will never reach.

Put together, the verse draws a line between two kinds of greatness. God is great in what stays hidden, and a good ruler is great in his patient, careful effort to understand what is in front of him. The searching is honorable work, and it happens inside a world that will always hold more than anyone can find.
