What Galatians 6:2 means
Paul tells the churches in Galatia that helping carry each other's heaviest loads is how they truly fulfill the way of Christ.
Paul writes this near the end of a letter to churches that had been divided over rules, status, and who counted as a true insider. Just before it, he warns them against pride and against measuring themselves next to each other. Then he names the alternative: get underneath the load your neighbor cannot carry alone.
The word for burden here means a crushing weight, the kind no one manages by themselves. “The law of Christ” is his shorthand for the whole way of Jesus, which he sums up as loving your neighbor as yourself. Carrying that weight for someone is itself the obedience he has in mind.
