What Psalms 116:15 means

God does not treat the death of his faithful ones as cheap or unnoticed; each one is weighty and costly in his sight.

Psalm 116 is a song of thanks from someone who nearly died and was rescued. In the middle of it comes this line. The word translated "precious" carries the sense of costly or weighty, something of great value that is not spent lightly.

It means God does not shrug off the death of those who belong to him; every such death registers with him as significant. "Saints" here simply means his faithful or devoted ones, not a special class of heroes.
