Luke 7:42
Luke 7:42. El Versículo del Día, Jueves, 22 de octubre de 2026, con una breve reflexión.
Y no teniendo ellos de qué pagar, perdonó á ambos. Di, pues, ¿cuál de éstos le amará más?
Luke 7:42
Qué significa este versículo
In a short story about two debtors, Jesus says a lender cancels both debts because neither man can pay, then asks which of them will love him more, pointing his host toward the truth that people who know how much they've been forgiven love the most.
Jesus is having dinner at the home of a Pharisee named Simon. In the middle of the meal, a woman from the town who was known as a sinner comes in, kneels at Jesus' feet, and starts to cry. Her tears fall on his feet, so she wipes them with her hair, kisses them, and pours perfume over them.
Simon watches all this and thinks to himself that if Jesus were really a prophet, he would know what kind of woman was touching him and would want nothing to do with her. Jesus knows what Simon is thinking, so instead of arguing, he tells him a little story.
A moneylender had two people who owed him money. One owed five hundred denarii, which was well over a year's wages for a laborer, and the other owed fifty. This verse is where the story turns: neither of them could pay, so the lender simply cancelled both debts. Then Jesus asks Simon the question the whole story was built for, which is which of the two will love the lender more.
The word for "forgave" here comes from the Greek word for grace or gift. The lender doesn't negotiate or set up a payment plan. He gives the debt away freely, as a kindness, to people who had no way to earn it.
Simon gives the obvious answer in the next verse: the one who was forgiven more. With that, Jesus turns to the woman and shows Simon what he missed. Simon never offered the basic courtesies a host gave a guest, like water for his feet or a kiss of welcome, while this woman has poured out everything she had. Her great love shows that she knows how much she has been forgiven, and Simon's coolness shows how little he thinks he needs it.
