Habakkuk 2:11
Habakkuk 2:11. The Verse of the Day for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with a short reflection.
For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber will answer it.
Habakkuk 2:11
What this verse means
A house built with what was taken from others cannot keep the secret, because even its stones and beams end up speaking against the person who built it.
Habakkuk was a prophet, and he was frustrated. He kept asking God why cruel and greedy people seem to get away with everything while everyone else pays for it.
God answers with a list of warnings against a powerful empire that got rich by robbing and crushing weaker nations. The old word for these warnings is "woe," which is close to saying "trouble is coming." This verse sits inside one of them. It pictures a man who builds himself a large, beautiful house using everything he took from other people.
Then comes the strange turn. The stones he set in the wall and the wooden beams he raised start to speak. One cries out, and the other answers it back. The house he was so proud of becomes the very thing that gives him away.
It is a vivid way of saying something simple. You cannot hide the harm you did inside the things you build with it. The wrong gets built into the walls, and one day it speaks for itself.
