And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

What Mark 1:35 means

It shows Jesus, at the busiest point of his early ministry, deliberately leaving the crowd before sunrise to be alone in a deserted place and pray.

The evening before, the whole town of Capernaum had crowded around the door with its sick, and Jesus had healed far into the night. So this verse arrives at a peak of demand. While it is still dark, before anyone else is up, he slips out of the house and walks to a deserted place outside town, alone, to pray.

When his friends finally track him down, they tell him everyone is looking for him. He answers that it is time to move on to the other towns and preach there too. He prays first, by himself, and then goes back out into the day with his direction settled.
