Verse of the Day — Thursday, August 20, 2026
1 Corinthians 15:42-44
1 Corinthians 15:42-44. The Verse of the Day for Thursday, August 20, 2026, with a short reflection.
It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory.
1 Corinthians 15:42-44
What this verse means
Paul compares a buried body to a seed put in the ground, promising that the same person will be raised, changed from decay and weakness into what is imperishable and full of glory.
Paul is writing to Christians in Corinth, some of whom doubted that the dead would really rise. He answers with a picture from farming. A seed goes into the soil looking spent and finished, and what comes up is that same seed's life in a fuller form. That is the image he holds over the human body.
The verse stacks up contrasts. What is buried is perishable, weak, and without honor. What is raised is imperishable, powerful, and full of glory. Each pair describes a single thing that is first sown and then raised. Paul's point is continuity: the body that dies is the same self God raises and transforms.
