Verse of the Day — Friday, September 11, 2026
Leviticus 19:35-36
Leviticus 19:35-36. The Verse of the Day for Friday, September 11, 2026, with a short reflection.
You shall do no unrighteousness… in measures of length, of weight, or of quantity. You shall have just balances, just weights. I am Yahweh your God.
Leviticus 19:35-36
What this verse means
It commands honest measurement in judgment, length, weight, and quantity, because the God who freed Israel from Egypt requires scales that tell the truth.
This command sits in the chapter where loving your neighbor (verse 18) gets translated into daily mechanics: wages, courts, gleanings left for the poor, and scales. Ancient markets ran on hand-held balances and stone weights, and a merchant could carry two sets of stones, one for buying and one for selling. The law closes that gap.
Then it anchors everything in memory: 'I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.' A people who once stood on the wrong side of power is told to measure others fairly. In this chapter, holiness gets weighed at the market stall too.
